In the current form too, it's a little gamey having players run up behind vehicles, up to houses etc. and blowing the hell out of them.
My idea is this.
Have a truck (Like the toyata trucks or possibly just use the BM-21) with some munitions latched on the back of it. Have several of these around the Insurgent map. Players drive these things around to the location they choose. They hop out, and similar to the CO asset deployment, players within 50 meters of this truck will be able to request a variety of explosive munitions to be deployed. Should definitely be a limit though as to how many can be deployed.
(A truck like so)

In any case, once the munition is deployed, it for the most part will bury itself. The player will have to place the discharge device in order to trigger the explosion.
And bam!, you have your IED.
The truck can alternatively be used as a VBIED. Or upon loss of full health by enemy (or friendly) fire it will create a massive explosion.
Coalition/NATO/ISAF/Allied forces will also have the opportunity to safely detonate the IEDs as well. A single engineer could walk up to the IED, place some C4 of his own and detonate it, could even possibly use it against the Insurgents.
__________
On another note, I was wondering if the IEDs could get an actual explosion effect? Something like the JDAM's effect, with basically lots of smoke and dust kicking up after detonation. Every video I've seen of an IED going off looks something like that.
