Why do you think civies are killed?

Interesting quote from the west wing
"We measure the success of a mission by two things: was it successful and how few civilians did we hurt. They measure success by how many.
They've got pregnant women delivering bombs. You're talking to me about international laws.
The laws of nature don't even apply here!" - Admiral Fitzwallace

There are consequences like Haditha IRL, but in other situations, there are not like the Fallujah offensive IRL and the beginning of a war. Most of the killing of civilians is from aircraft, tanks and artillery, and than small arms I am sure, but you cannot sit here and say that a lot of civilians have not been killed in all the wars since WW1. There are some situations when it is a necessary evil to kill a civilians whether you want to or not.BloodBane611 wrote:That doesn't mean people, especially infantrymen who are experiencing the viciousness and brutality of war close up, are or should be killing civilians because they just don't care enough not to. Even in this war we have seen individuals tried for action that has been perceived by the public to be inhumane. Certainly there have been incidents in Iraq that have led to serious public backlash, even in the US.
You seem to be arguing that there are no consequences for civilian casualties. There ARE, and they are not that hard to find. An individual may not always feel them immediately, but they do affect combat operations, and they are an important factor in insurgency/counter-insurgency.

Well I think there should be more incentive to "arrest" civis rather than kill them.SectorNine50 wrote:That's why I support the idea of the civi being punished when he dies as well. They will be more weary of dying because it will take longer for them to respawn, and it will definitely make them more of a support/medic/engineer roll rather than a distraction among your ranks.
Also, to the IRL civies picking up guns debate, a trained soldier seeing a civilian picking up a weapon *should* be able to maim the civilian instead of killing him, as an untrained civilian would likely not continue to be a threat after taking a rifle round.

BAD Penalty FOR SURE... there should be 90seconds spawn time if you kill a civi.. maybe more.. in real you always check your fire too!! so why not here. thats just crazy. maybe 90 seconds spawntime is too low too, maybe standard of 120 seconds when you kill a civi. and -100 points. that would change the trigger happy people.

Uh...
Well the way I look at it is; Even if they were every birght colour possible with a massive red arrow coming down from the sky saying "don't shoot" some incompetent UK soldier would shoot them anyway. They're bright green for flips sake it's not hard to tell them apart from the soldiers if they loose stuff because of shooting them it's their problem they should be kicked! As for a penalty for shooting a civie are you kidding? It would make it acceptable to shoot them just to make the player loose points leave the stupid civies how they are and quit complaining.

Cases, where I have killed civvies (accidently or on purpose) are when you have several insurgents swarming against your positions, and there are civvies running next to them, you don't have time to id who's "friend" or foe. I like the idea, but being punished killing civvie who hangs around with armed hostile persons is quite frustrating. Anyway I still like the previous change that civilians dont have that silly green shirt anymore.
and hehe, check this out:

I didn't shoot them, but if those guys would have been my real friends ...
