Visual feedback when hitting

Post by cat »

I would like to see some form of visual feedback when someone is hit. The problem is, with the new inaccuracy when firing (which is cool itself), there ís no way to tell if I did actually hit someone. If the bullet misses and hits the floor close to it then I see a smoke puff. But if the target is on a same level like the shooter and it is missed, there is no way to see if it did hit.

I would sugest:

- "blood puffs"
- Some form of flinching animation

In reality a full soldier wouldn't have blood puffs unless it was something like a headshot aimed right

but there would be some other very visible reaction to getting hit yes? I mean its a realism mod. There should be some visual feedback

In reality everyone is going to react diffrently to a bullet, some are going to just flinch or even carry on shooting, some will take it as a big shock and stop everything. Dependant on the caliber of the bullet, where it hits and the person, Implementing a realistic bullet hit would be problematic, and unbalanced for the unlucky people that get the instant loss of control.

At least a smoke puff should be added. If I can see a smoke puff on the ground then some puff on the target should be visible

The smoke or blood puff isn't a reliable hit indicator.
It doesn't proof that the server recognized that shot. It's only a client side visual effect that leads to confusion for players who doesn't know that. You know the threads where some random guys complain about someone because he survived 3 head shots, "Omgz, but I saw his blood!!!!11!".
The only reliable hit indicator is the blinking cross from vanilla.

If he drops and does not move anymore, he's generally dead. If not, keep shooting. If it's worth shooting, it's worth shooting twice. ;)

More guns and bullets make bad guys go away faster,
which in turn makes everyone in the area safer.

Currently, there are flinching animations when a soldier is hit, but every bullet doesn't seem to make them react. TK some bots in SP vanilla, and watch them twitch. You should see puffs too, but online, server lag will show the smoke, but he didn't get hurt.

Today, it happened to me and a PLA marksman. I was grenadier and burst fired on the guy, puff. Fire, puff. He turns and takes me out with precision. My bullets vanished into cyberspace. :p

Still, we need to put blood back in. Realistic or not, it's not only more 'lifelike' but less ridiculous than puffs of smoke.

In addition to no noticeable visual cues if you scored a hit or not what I hate is I can't see where my bullets impact the ground very well (if at all). I've given up on the sniper rifles, I can't tell where the round is hitting so how the hell do I know how much to adjust? I don't.
