A thread was made recently posing the same question. :)

Basically, it was unrealistic, so it was removed in .7. When you shoot body armor, blood spray shouldn't occur in real life, from what I've read. Since BF2 has its limits like any engine, only enabling blood to appear on certain areas when hit was impossible.

Maybe the reason was that the blood puff effect was client side, thus showing up even if the server did not register a hit. I rather not see them then get confused. So I’m glad they got removed. Don’t bring them back!

Too bad it has been removed, as this does not comply reality.

Well that would be good for like say tank vs. insurgent kinda stuff.

But then again it would probably get us a few human rights groups, half a Christian coalition, and a jihad against us. :)

I say blood looks better than brown puffs of dust, but if the mods consider it unrealistic I have to agree. Although, The only video I've ever seen of someone getting shot irl(Kennedy assassination) did show a huge spray of blood.
My #1 excuse for having a bad game:

If you have the stomach for it check out some others, you dont really see blood too often at impacted. I have to agree with the PR team, keep the blood out.

Unless you want to add how real people die (screaming, crying, gurgling, spawn times set to 2-4 hours). People dont die like they do in the movies, quite a sad thing to see. Plus doesn't some places have strict rules about gore in game? I could be wrong.

1. Hit boxes
2. Realism - puffs are dumb
3. The only real option for blood is to add "smart" damage models that bleed like they do in real life. ARMA tried to do this but made things look STUPID.

funny you should say that blitz games in the uk have managed to put together a training simulation for medical students, they use Procedural texturing to simulate blood loss on a critcally injured patient, then even managed to capture death right, heavy breathing, blood loss, skin turning pale you know generally the works,

if the BF2 engine supports Procedural textures or can swap texture during play, maybe some blood effect can be applied after a player has died? maybe a python code to switch textures appon injury or death, nothing over the top like armed assualt.

I think the best thing to do is leave it. I saw a video of a guy who wasn't shook by police pop himself in the head with a 45.........Its not fun to see........

Blood ftw! We used to scoff at the unrealistic smoke puffs in vBF2 and be happy of our real blood in PR.

Personally, I loved it. However I can understand the reasons for it's removal too. Shame it can't be localised somehow, but I know the engine is very limited in this way. One of my most used screenies from way back in v0.3 (I think!):

Sorry for necroing the thread, but I missed it last time round! :)

I admit, there was a certain pleasure of knifing a civilian and watching the splash, running right into it.

Its not important to the game tactics, you allready see them fly back when dead so I'd say thats enough

Yea but I'd not want it to always be a perfect confirmation, I'm always trying to bluff and flank the enemy so I like uncertainty. The scoreboard delay is good of course but maybe we could also sometimes have death cries ! :D
