I was thinking the same thing, just make it shoot a HEAT shell, add a load of dust and it's pretty much done. The only thing that would have to be added as well is an explosion at the stand itself. As you could see in the video, the explosion that such a device creates to propel the copper plate and make sure it become a projectile is quite big, so it would be unrealistic not to add this.Well if thats the kind of thing you want there is absolutely no need for any fancy coding. Just treat it as a normal tank shell.

Re: Explosively formed penetrator (EFP)
I suggested adding an EFP back when IEDs were first being discussed. Don't know what ever happened to that but I'm really glad to see it being brought back up.
I really think these would add a great element to gameplay, putting some major fear into Tanks and APCs. Also I think it would then make it practical to tone down the IED explosion a little bit, nothing drastic, the IED should still be the insurgency HE weapon but now it could assume more of an anti-personal/soft vehicle role.
Also I would think that the projectile would simply be a sabot round, but it should do more damage than a standard sabot round. I would think 1 to the side or rear of a tank should disable it. I also think there should be a mild HE style explosion, maybe enough to take out a Humvee but defiantly not enough to severely damage an APC.

Defiantly a lot of truth in that, but I see these being highly effective ambush tools that could very well stop armor from even reaching the battlefield. Assuming these weapons are given a effective range of something like 25-50M (tried to find any data on effective ranges but it seems to vary far too much with the design) they could be extremely effective in ambushing a few spots on Basrah.Ghost1800 wrote:I support the idea, but if the current IEDs, molotovs, and constant barrages from RPGs don't do the job I don't think these will.

I think its a great idea but I think you all are thinking to hard about it. Couldn't you just make a new model for a land mine, and make a new pick-up kit for the insurgents, make them with an AK a few mags, binoculars and 1 or 2 EFP's. It would seem a whole lot easier but I'm no modeler or anything.

How well did you search? Cause the funny thing is that I suggested the same exact thing with much more detail back in early 2007 before I knew about anything.hyraclyon wrote:Yes, i did use the search function, and no, i was not able to find a topic suggesting the same thing. If this has already been suggested anyway, feel free to delete this topic.
Hers the topic:

Don't worry though I won’t close the thread.

Hmm yes i am sorry i guess i missed that topic. But it doesn't look like it really kicked of though, and people do seem interested in the addition of the EFP, so it would be a shame if it wouldn't be brought up againHow well did you search? The problem is that a land mine works very different from an EFP. It would not only require a new model, but it also has to shoot a projectile. Not really a big problem anyway, but i don't see a landmine doing thatI think its a great idea but I think you all are thinking to hard about it. Im all for EFP's as a deployable weapon. Would maybe acually also take abit more skill, seeing as you actiully need to hit the vehicle with the projectile insted of just a blast radius.

You are right, but still, real-life insurgents most of the time use big artillery shells as IEDS. These create an explosion that is almost equal to the one currently seen in PR, but the PR ieds are not the size (much smaller) of an artillery shell.
No you could rather compare it with an RPG though with only much more force in it!

Re: Explosively formed penetrator (EFP)
Not really, it has a lot more force yes ( can reach 1km/s as top speed), but no explosive in the projectile itself. It's just a molten piece of copper, but still, it's capable of penetrating any armor currently in the US arsenal. What makes it even more deadly though is that when it hits the fuel compartment of the vehicle, there is a big chance of the fuel catching fire. But if it doesn't, it will still disable the vehicle, the tires will certainly be popped, and driving a tank/apc around with a huge hole in it isn't very comfortable either. And i'm not even mentioning what would happen when it hits one of the persons in the tank... there wouldn't be much left of you that's for sure.No you could rather compare it with an RPG though with only much more force in it!
Well anyway, since mescaldrav already has a basic model, anyone interested in figuring out how to get it to shoot a projectile? Wish i could do it myself but i can't.
Oh, and btw, another good EFP info vid: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=e823e_4207

Anybody still interested in this?
I found thisand it reminded me of this thread. I still would like just having one big EFP but a big anti-vehicular shotgun does sound kinda fun...
