Little update


HughJass passed me back the map. I'm now working with vegetation and minor ajustments. Yesterday I worked a little over the paddies.

If you think the beach isn't enough, prepare to fight here:

They are from Eve of Destruction mod and fit nicely witth the map.

Some of the eod statics are good, but a few are wank, especially the colours - be careful.
I personally wouldnt use any of the buildings in your screenshot, as I think it would look better with the stone houses, or shacks - thats just my opinion though - its your map!

stone ones simply don't fit in the actual paddies. These are more like what we've seen from the pictures of the real place.

dont worry, lightmaps will change a lot for this map.

Well I have good news and bad news. Good news is that I got the map working in game!! Yes I am quite excited because this is my first map :D

Bad news is that it lags horribly :D

After a couple tweaks on removing density from undergrowth/overgrowth, the map is playable at a mere 15-21 FPS. This is not good, but I am working on it.

The reason I have no screenshots today is because I don't want to show off a version of the map that might undergo some big changes. Once I get to a point I am happy with I will post pics, and even a download link.

That was part of the problem :D once I removed birch trees (roma added them to the hills) and replaced them with the pines the lag droped a bit.

mmm can use imo more under/overgrowth but it start loopking @ something :D

what? you can't see any undergrowth because the screenshots are taken from far up.

anyway I have good news, I have tweaked the map in to being playable! I will soon release the map after finishing up light maps (will take a while, sigh) env maps, do surrounding terrain, 'script' (more like learn) counter-attack mode for 64, and make a 32 version layout. Also follow rhinos tutorial on how to make a better minimap, mine looks like **** right now.

after that I am pretty much ready for bug reports and so on.

If the map is called Dragons Mouth, then there must be a ton of theses.
Add some AAA guns in pits near the beach to dissuade the idea of Helis.

Dragon's Mouth is an analogy to the place. Imagine you inside a dragon's mouth, is it a good place to be ? If you look the map from up, you will see the beach like a mouth and dragon is a reference to China.

But if you have a better name, tell us.

It's like Normandy and Vietnam had a ******* love child. I really hope this map works out.


Advice would be to make some jungle environments surrounding the rice paddles so that it has even more of a Vietnam feel to it and that the US or Chinese could run out of the woods to the LZ when ambushed in the woods.



Major Advice: Make the actual Beach off limits to the Chinese so that they cannot go next to the water and camp it. It needs a dome of death. Make APCs unable to shoot at the infantry on the beach too or else it would be rape. This would force the Chinese to use their small arms and allow the US to at least get a good foothold on the beach. There needs to be some way to get a firebase up on the beaches too so that if the US is wiped out, they can at least spawn in and keep moving up the beaches until their firebase is destroyed by Chinese HAT.

Dont worry, the chineses cant stay on the beachs flanks or in the beach area, the best places to be are in the bunkers or in the trenches.

wow, that really does look good.

I love the beach and defences, well thought out.

Now we can play the first mission from MOH:Frontline in PR, sweet :p
