y doseint EA make a V1.5 pach that suports 128 players? thay would sell more copys of BF2 and we all no how much EA loves money

It would be laggy even if it did work, my pessimism tells me it'd have problems like the destructibles can cause with overwhelming the netcode

You can still do it in single player with bots, maybe someone will enable this for PR_sp? Some guy got it upto 255 bots

ok ea doesnt want to sell a old game when they have a brand new game they are making, making a game engine takes alot of skill and man power and from what i have seen on the pr fourms we dont have 100 people laying around with no lives that understand c++ well enough to write code for a engine. also from what i understand about punkbuster if we used our own engine we would have to pay for punkbuster and that could get a little costly for the licence.

PR is a pretty popular, well known mod for BF2 (Look at the moddb awards and all the media attention it's received over the past few years). It wouldn't be long before some community of griefers found out, and they would be all over PR's servers like a plague. Sure there are no ranks, but many people would do things like this just for the hell of it. To say otherwise would be a pretty naive statement.

There are no ranks in ArmA either.

Yet it's filled with script-kiddies who enjoy destroying other people's fun. Cheating isn't about ranks. It's about the enjoyment these ******** get from pissing others off...

Given that BF2 has now got more than DOUBLE the player population of 2142 it could make economic sense for EA / DICE to release a BF2 1.5 patch.

It would be incredibly cool if EA was to give BF2 a little love, would really show a commitment to the franchise.

I'd love to see a few 2142 features backported into BF2, and 128 players would be superb for those folks willing to try it out. Alas I think that 2142 was the last flogging of the incrementally updated BF1942 engine.. future BF titles will likely use the Frostbite tech DICE has developed... so the probability of an update to the BF42/BF2/BF2142 engine is negligible.

btw 128 is not a practical number given the limit on # squads... but ANYTHING to get more than 32p per team would be a huge improvement.

PR has more players then 2142 ? wow

I couldnt get that 255 bot patch to work with vanilla or the pr_sp mod to work for me, it could make a great demo video to combine the two. A big problem is the bot patcher loads bf2 directly which pr doesnt like because of the modified shaders


Squad max is 9 squads, times 6 players each and 1 commander makes it 55 a side or 110 per server. Theres probably all sorts of secondary effects.
EA doesnt patch bf2 now because its not in their business plan, 2142 is the replacement and bf2 is old news.
You'd probably have more success asking them to patch heroes or bad company for more players because those sales are still on the cash register and viable enterprises/expenditure for their balance sheets

No, BF2 has more players than 2142. PR has a proportion of the total number of BF2 players, a smallish one.
