Fire effect in explosion pieces

Post by =Romagnolo= »

I have no idea if it is easy or not to do it, but when in game they look really cool. I had this idea watching this video here:

I hope you guys fell the same that I felt when I whatched. It was like: "Wow, it is just a detail, but also so cool"

And the video shows a interesting mechanism with tank-commander vision and the gunners vision.
[R-DEV]OkitaMakoto:"Cheers, you're the man, Okita"
[R-DEV]Rhino:"I in fact got kicked from a server for tking."
Hitperson:"well done, treasure it forever."
[R-DEV]Adriaan:"Damned classy Roma, if I may say so."
[R-DEV]Chuc:"Pro man, pro."
(yes, it was about me)
[R-MOD]BloodBane611:"Romagnolo, you definitely deserve a LOL award for that."

They're not that realistic, in my opinion.

I can't say for certain, but AP (SABOT) rounds are sheer force-based, and don't explode, so no fire, and HE rounds use high explosive, which relies on the compression wave and/or shrapnel, so no fire there either. There is a rather massive muzzle blast though whatever is fired.

As for post-hit effects, I expect there would be fires, secondary explosions etc caused by fuel/ammo cooking off in the vehicle, but not the DC extent.

Ha ha, the face @ 2:20! That brings back memories.

As for the effect, I agree that it doesn't look very realistic without a decent explosion.

PR explosions need more smoke and less fire. Also, is there a way to keep destroyed vehicles rolling on momentum as the crew die and the vehicle burns?

Yeah, been a while since I played that mod. I can honestly say I thought that video was of a BF2 mod. I know it said Desert Combat but I confused it with Desert Conflict... When I saw the tank sights, it looked familiar of FH's tank sights and when I saw one of the player models walking, I automatically thought of BF1942, since BF2 doesn't have a walk button. Very impressive for the BF1942 engine...

When did I last play DC? 0.7 I think. It is amazing what they have done!
