TBH I think they would more likely side with countries geographically close to them. Am I correct in thinking the Iranian military is the only national army to be considered a terrorist organisation by the US?
Remember the whole thing is a fictional force to, it is not meant in any way to represent any real armed force. So dont think about making any 'political statement' here, just which side Iran would be more willing to join.
Would people feel better with HAT getting an RPG-29 instead of RPG-26 , assuming one is being made currently, or should this faction stick with the current 2x RPG-7V for the HAT kit?
The BMP-3 stays until something else comes along and/or the main MEC forces start to use a LOT of them. I think Brummy's DRC faction will use an older BMP1 model, so we can perhaps use theirs once they have it. But remember this is their main armoured unit, the most powerful they have. Aparently the saudis have around 150 T90s, and 600 BMP3s Kuwait has 110 more (captured by MEC forces if you want to say that). But until there is a model of the BMP-1 we can use I obviously cant add it and the BMP3 is not out of place. Either way I have asked Brummy now, just need to wait and see what happens.
The point of this faction is for them to be defensive, so any tank must be carefully thought through and added in small numbers if at all added. If we find a good armour map that calls for the MEC to be defensive (ie, holding most flags at the start) then the T62 will definately have a place. Unfortunately most of the maps I am currently aiming for dont have a place for the T62.
@ DEVs:
This faction is about 166KB ATM, but a few of the files are copies where only three lines of text needed to be added and I dont have the Khaybar model yet.
The US just recently marked the Iranian Quds Force which is Special Forces branch of the Iranian military as a terrorist organization on the allegations that it has been supporting the Iraqi Shiite Insurgents, but on the other hand you also have the US supporting the People's Mujahedin which is known by Iran as a terrorist organization, because of their countless acts to overthrow the Iranian government (conducted attacks and assassinations on Iranian targets).
To answer the rest of your suggestions I'll just copy and paste my old reply which I made a while ago, since I don't feel like having to retype the same old statement for every invidivual who suggests something similar as merging the Iranians with the MEC foces:
The MEC army represents the Arab coalition, while Iranians are Persians. Of course MEC stands for Middle Eastern Coalition so looking at it from a geographical perspective Iran is part of the Middle-East, except for the fact that in-game the MEC forces look like Arabs and speak Arabic, while Iranians speak Farsi and their appearance is somewhat different from Arabs (specially the Northern Iranians where Kashan is located). To assume that somehow the Iranians are part of the MEC just wouldn’t work either. You can't have the two of them together as Both Arabs and Persians hate one another. Arabs are Sunni Muslims, while Persians with a variety of different religions run a Shiite Muslim government (established in the 1979 Iranian revolution), because the great majority of the population are Shiites.
The MEC might represent a fictional Middle Eastern force, but we can’t assume that all Arabs, Persians, Sunni and Shiite Muslims have somehow set aside centuries of war and hate to unite against the West. Persians dislike the Arabs to the fullest degree and the same can be said about the greater Arab population. They have been at war with one another for thousands of years before US or Canada existed and they still are hostile towards one another. During the Iran-Iraq war from 1980-1988, Iraq(Arab state) received financial support from almost all major Arab countries in the Middle East. Oil rich countries like Saudi Arabia ($30.9 billion), Kuwait ($8.2 billion) and the United Arab Emirates ($8 billion) helped Saddam with costs to keep his war machine going against Iran. It cost Iran more than 200,000casualties(most with the use of chemical weapons dropped on cities by Saddam) and roughly $350 billion. This is only one of the most recent Arab-Persian conflicts, but the differences don’t end there. Today Iran is one of the only major Shiite Muslim nations, while the majority of Arab countries are Sunni Muslim states. Sunni Muslims and Shiite Muslims don’t accept one anothers' fates and there have been many wars between the two followers for centuries. One good example would be the present state of Iraq and the civil war between the Shiite followers and the Sunnis we’re seeing. The only true Arab Allied of Iran would be the Lebanese Hezbollah organization and that’s because they’re also Shiite Islam followers. Not to forget Hezbollah was originally formed and financially supported by Iran. But Hezbollah only holds 14 of the 128 seats in Lebanon's Parliament, and does not have enough power to provide sufficient support as an Allied to Iran. So realistically speaking, Iran would and never could fit into the whole MEC force in a mod like Project Reality, because the differences are too eminence to set aside.
Aside from the facial structure and skin tone differences I hardly think it’s possible that one day in the near future the Iranian people will set aside their language barrier, religion, culture, and change a great deal of their military equipment to match those of an Arab state such as Syria, Egypt, or Iraq.
By the way Iran was a very close ally of the United States prior to the Islamic revolution of 1979. I suggest you study the history of that region a little better.
