My two cents....dont listen to anyone here...or anywhere. Just do it. If the darkness doesnt end up working but your maps still kick *** it take five seconds to brighten up the map :-P

From the sound of it people wouldnt want it to be (old) Bi Ming dark but perhaps a light setting simmilar to EOD2's "Lost In Vietnam Night's" would be good...
As far as insurgents not having NVG's well they'll do what they do on any other insurgency game mode, kill an enemy and take his kit like the scavengers insurgents are. So, its perfectly real for a night insurgency map (after all, look at all the night raids US/allied troops go on in iraq). I would really like to see an insurgency night map and hope some one takes up the task (Id give it a go my self but generally speaking I cant map for sh!t)

In Bf2 Special Forces, there are a few night map with a lot of light everywhere, in those area you can't see a thing with the NVG. I think a big urban map using the same concept would be cool.

I'd have to agree with the above, it would be cool, but the lighting capabilities of BF2 may not give an adequate level of quality/realism. Also, the NVGs we have atm are not realistic iirc from previous threads, and also would the insurgents be able to operate NVGs from enemy kits?

It could turn out great, or absolutely ****.

Could we have a night version of Al-basrah alongside the day version. Imagine that, leaving the Lit Airport into the darkness keeping your eyes open for IED's hidden in the night. The village and the countryside is completely dark except for the lightposts that light only certain areas. The burning oil rigs also light up certain areas. The city is moderately lit with lightposts and maybe the mosque. Trying to set the mood a little.

how long did it take to convert bi ming to day?

iirc, didn't it crash regularly on night mode?

If such maps were made and worked, we would need better NVGs, like this old thread says https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f200-p ... d-ipd.html

In a simple answer its easy. You just need to change the light setting and re-lightmap. The biggest issue is light mapping take a long time and allot of HD space.

Ok, i'm too lazy to read everything past page 2 sooo

I 100% approve a completely night time map...

The only difference between Insurgents Advantage in PR and IA in Real Life is that Insurgents know where EVERYTHIGN in the City is..

I think the map should have plenty of little hiding places (along with good shaders on the players so they don't show up that well in shadows > > and maybe force shadows XD)

Cause a map that you can ambush in the night would be really nice....

Maybe give some people some old NV's? Like... kinda faded, craptacular that they got off the blackmarket? I mean.. wouldn't THAT seem kinda realistic? But only give it to Limited kits that they find or something... or maybe civilians... NO, wait, this time they're called "Informants" ^_^ cause that sounds more like a group of people that would help...

but they get like.... no weaponry... at all...to do anything.. but say "Hey enemies woot" ^_^ that would even it up ..

but the NVGS have to like.. kinda suck, and kinda be unreliable or something.. > > maybe fuzzy a little?
