Hello guys, I want some help how to use L3DT to generate terrian for my map.
I want do a Kashan size map, how do I configure the size options when generating a new land ? I know the BF2editor settings for a Kashan size map are 1024x4.
And then, how do I set the parameters for a good desert land with montains (like kashan) ? But I'd like to have the montains around the map, not in the middle. Is there anyway to control where to have montains and where to have plain areas ?
Or should I get terragen ?

L3DT is ok when making maps for vanilla or other mods, but making your own terrain is best. Also, PR devs usually only accept maps that are based on real world places, which L3dt doesn't really do.
Sorry, I know L3DT is quick and great, but it doesn't work well for PR.
Don't bother getting Terragen unless you have money laying around that you've been bathing in.
L3DT is good, I use it, but only as a very advanced terrain painter to make a good base texture, then I work on the top of it. It is really best not to generate terrains from it, do them by hand you will have a far better result at the end if you start with a plan, work off the plan, instead of working on the terrain and try and merge that into some kind of plan.
but to configure it into a 4km map, X and Y should be set to 16 like you have it, then the box below it to 4. if you look below that box you will see that the rez is 1024 x 1024 (which it should be), but below it its 10x10kms, but that's cos you have it setup to scale 10 instead of scale 4.

what do you base this statement on? you always sound like youve done 1000 high quality maps... im using l3dt (ITS FREE) for pr aswell.

no you see its not 100% randomized, you can tell it kinda what you want, but for terrain generating I wouldn't bother tbh. I can make much nicer terrains by hand, as you will see with muttrah
But ehhh, like I said I only use it now to do terrain painting. Fools Road I did the painting on it with L3DT then taxi just hand painted over the top and you can see the huge difference it made, epically if you compare the before and after minimaps
Want to know how i did this...black magic! To do "black magic" i suggest you read this tutorial: tutorials:l3dt:fjord [BundyWiki]
P.s damn you Rhino, you got to him 1st.

I find creating realistic terrain you Bf2 ed quite difficult but then again im a bit of a noob...so how does everyone else create their sculpt their terrain - Bf2ed, L3DT or some other program?

Sure, I know you knew, but I posted here to get a more detailed help to work with the L3DT as below

Thank you very much

Oh guys, I love you wall, I've finally set my montains at north exactly I wanted !
Take a look:
Now, I'm going to use the Tpaint to paint the map. Does anyone have tips how to do it ?

I used a program called geocontrol - it has a free trial and is very noob friendly. I used a customised terrain preset which was very quick, but I had to spend many hours tweaking it in the editor.
everything necessary about t-paint is said here : BF2_TPaint
but if you dont want the default colourtextures to appear (t-paint only accepts your chosen detailmaps but simply uses its default colourmaps) you will either have to edit the colourmapsfiles in photoshop (read through the thread here... there are several posts about it BF2_TPaint - Terrain Painting Made Easy - Official BF Editor Forums )
or if you want to do a desert map (at least a sand-map) then i would dimply use the sand version of t-paint which is posted somewhere on the following pages
What happened with that tall and beutiful montains ?

Also, I know L3DT isn't just a randomizer, but you can't actually tell it that you want a mountain at so and so coordinates. So it randomly applies terrain data to the map based on the variables you give it. It's pretty much as random as computers get.
