You can only call it your second once you have completed your first.

Re: [MAP]My first map[HELP]
Seriously though, don't do a city until you've quite a bit of experience. For one, cities are a lot more work on your part, which makes them even more boring. For two, with a rural map 1/4 - 1/2 the map is done for you by the overgrowth randomizer. It's just much easier to make rural maps. It is very important in being a successful mapper to actually get something cool from your maps so that you can see what your work has accomplished. If you make a city it will take a while for you to get to see your accomplishment, which may lead to you giving up (not question your devotion to the map, but seriously)
Yes that's normal. It has a lot of stuff to load. Think about when a map loads in PR. 5 minutes would be too long though, mine takes less than 1 minute (actually timed not just how long it feels like).

Well, I don't know scar. I guess it's really about if you've seen enough natural landscapes to get a good idea of what you want to do. I've been all over North and Central America and Europe so I've got a fair idea for what I would want a natural map to look like. Really, terrain is what makes or breaks a rural map, while statics are what makes or breaks an urban map. Personally, I prefer the terrain because you can do anything, but with statics you have less than 50 buildings at your disposal so you kind of have to get creative.

Re: [MAP]My first map[HELP]
Set the "normalScale" of each overgrowth type you use to 0 to make the trees look straight and not vertically adapted to the terrain.
Generate lowdetailtexture again to make your textures look better.
use the road tool in the leveleditor to create roads...dont paint them by hand

That or it will take you well over a year to "finish"[R-CON]marcoelnk wrote:advice: dont make your first map a city map.. you will fail. no offense but i am speaking from my own experience here![]()
Speaking from experience here as well, hehe
Go with simple rolling hills and a few villages or something. BUT, whatever you choose, stick with it and dont give up. Thats the reason why 80% of the maps started never get done... people give up.

Re: [Map] My first map [HELP]
I think the probem is the texture scaling - try playing with the settings a bit - I cant remember which one you need to change.
As Okita says - dont give up - expect to spend hundreds of hours on it :/
