increase model detail at longer ranges?
Is there a setting or command to increase the distance at which the higher poly models are displayed? I would like to avoid model "pop" and have the rig to do it. Everything is set to "4" currently. Is there some other non-pb breaking command to do this?

Nope.
If your geometry and view distance settings are as high as they will go, you can't get it any better without screwing with the mod files - which will get you PB kicks.

How did you get your settings to stay at 4? Since 1.3 IIRC DICE disabled the ultra settings and reverts them back to level 3. Am I wrong somehow?

if you run the debugger / editor you can put in the command staticmeshrenderer.nolods 1 which forces every object that is being drawed into its highest quality mode (ie, lod0).
but not a ingame option
If we also increase it in the mod, it means it will also do the same for low gfx users. Would be nice if the ingame settings did a % ratio on the lod switch distance, so high gfx users could have the distance switch at long ranges than what it would for low gfx users, but that is not a option with the BF2 engine.

Can you tell me how to improve my settings like this? I believe i have the pc to handle this, and I hate the standard views i get of distant objects. Too much edginess, not well focused, and strange movements.

Why were the ultra settings disabled in 1.3?

try asking DICE? They most likly broke something to do with it and removed it instead of fixing it. You may be able to force ultra settings by hand in the profile .con files?gclark03 wrote:Why were the ultra settings disabled in 1.3?
Also anouther interesting fact is that the BF2 Demo had some really nice dynamic shadows with overgrowth which where taken out before the release of the full game.

Rhino sounds intrested ^^
Personally on BF2 i get best results for FPS and stoofs with Med/low Graphics, but i fly normally on muttrah city and stuff so i have an excuse.
