Huds for Aircraft
I think we can all agree the helo huds, and some of the jets huds need to be redone.. And appear more realistic.. I was hoping for it for with this new 0.8 release but at least add it with the next release..
Here is some Real footage of an A-10 500 lb bomb.

Re: Huds for Aircraft
Thats a Maverick AGM D or K, im thinking K, but it wont happen in PR, why? Because the Maverick IRL locks on to its target by the mavericks camera looking at the target, and once the pilot locks the camera on the target the camera will be LOCKED ONTO the target, also, if this happens there will need to be a small TV screen inserted into the upper right hand side of the cockpit, thats the Maverick screen.
Good suggestion, but very hard or impossible to code

Why not just another weapon slot with a laser target that lock instantly? You dont need ALL the detailsPanzar wrote:Thats a Maverick AGM D or K, im thinking K, but it wont happen in PR, why? Re: Huds for Aircraft
That's not a maverick. That is a laser guided 500 lb bomb.
I agree with the hud, however, I highly doubt it's possible with the BF2 engine. The hud is fine as it is and pretty much simulates decently an aircraft hud. Now I know the speed indicators are not accurate and the hud is missing vital components that normal aircraft have, but it's not a game breaking thing. Focus on different problems, such as gameplay issues.

HUDs are hardcoded afaik. Also auto lock-on defeats the purpose of the GUID...

I Like this Huds as they are. But I would like to see the return of "Smoked Glass" Windscreen on "Battle for Q". Making the lines and Numbers bigger still just don't make it all that much clearer to read sometimes with the super bright white sky that map has.

Re: Huds for Aircraft
In BF2, you can't really accurately simulate laser bomb delivery with planes doing the lasing.
In real life, when delivering an LGB, the plane (usually the one that dropped it, but not necessarily) will be lasing the target itself, usually using a pod mounted to the side of the fuselage, or one of the weapon hardpoints. The plane will take a wide turn over the target so that the side with the pod will continue to face the target. The pod will then guide the bomb on target by painting it with a laser. The laser is slaved to FLIR/camera allowing the pilot to visually pick out a target, and can lock on so that the pilot can concentrate on flying the plane. The view from that camera is what the video was.
You obviously can't do that in PR/BF2. What I'd like to see improved about huds is the vertical speed indicator on US choppers. While other choppers have decent indicator tapes, the US ones have indicators that barely move, even when you're rapidly plummeting towards the ground.

What do you mean by hardcoded?markonymous wrote:HUDs are hardcoded afaik. Also auto lock-on defeats the purpose of the GUID...
Have you played USI, OPK or any other mods? Alot of them have different huds.

Doesn´t look like a vanilla hardcoded hud to me?

hardcoded my ***... the only things that are hardcoded are the speed meters and stuff like that.
images are not hardcoded.

Re: Huds for Aircraft
they're right I'm afraid.
On the subject of HUDS and cockpit in general, I'd like to see small huds that fit within the modelled pane of glass, the smoked glass for better HUD vis on all planes, and a second wide angle view of the cockpit you can use while dogfighting. IL2, Lock ON, FSX all have this wide view, and to me its a good compromise if we cant use TrackIR. (which we cant
) The up down left right views are good but a zoomed out wide angle one would be nice too

Re: Huds for Aircraft
Look , I have read the ah-1w manual and by reading the thing .. All the information the hud is giving to the pilot in r/l isn't necessary for the pilot in bf2.h4ck3d wrote:Yeah yeah yeah, I know old topic.. But yeah, especially the Cobras, please.. Look at PoE 2.5 for instance..

Now if your talking about the Cockpit , thats different otherwise the HUD for the cobra is fine

Re: Huds for Aircraft
why did he mention the hud needs to be changed, but the video he showed didnt show a hud, but a window that sits to the bottom right of where instrument panels are.... The A10s hud is as good as its gonna get. Cant get the realistic piper with the circle going counter clock wise to show when its 75% full means you have full accuracy.... Its fine the way it is.
