Collision meshes for rotors
Helicopters shouldn't be able to clip their rotors into buildings. It'd make using helicopters more realistic if the rotors had to be considered when flying.

Re: Collision meshes for rotors
agreed, especially on Muttrah where they go through the narrow streets to avoid AA
also, the electrical wires should also be given collision meshes? would the chopper get zapped or somthing when they broke them?

It was done for 0.6 i belief but it went with allot of problems and was kept out.

High tension steel wire vs lightweight, fast moving (mostly aluminium) heli...You'd just end up with a shredded chopper.Dr2B Rudd wrote:also, the electrical wires should also be given collision meshes? would the chopper get zapped or somthing when they broke them?
It'd be very nice to see (and it'd stop Nickbond from whipping my face with tree branches), but it's if it would work...

Re: Collision meshes for rotors
I'm pretty sure it would be very easy to do, just affixing a small invisible cylinder object where the rotors are, and putting the collision mesh on that, assuming it needs an actual model object to be 'collide-able', if not, I'm also confused why it's not implemented yet.

If it was it would have been done already.Psyrus wrote:I'm pretty sure it would be very easy to do

Re: Collision meshes for rotors
yeah and if it is possible to make the choppers engine stop running if the rotor collision mesh touches something to hard (except bullets) simulating the rotors getting broken and making the heli plummet to the ground

Re: Collision meshes for rotors
I'm fairly sure that it was already done but taken out, and think about it, one of the reasons, whether we want to admit it or not, that choppers don't have rotor collision meshes is because we don't have Fast Ropes.

then lets have fast ropes!
what a good idea!

So this is why they want Fastropes !
AHA! I thought it was because ppl wanted to be leet.
But then since this is not going anywhere, why cant we have like helis that can take a "punch". Like they can almost not take any fire, but their realife counterparts can stay in air for alot longer.
Maybe make the Heli as strong as an APC, only it takes damage from small arms, then you can implement the crash Mesh on the rotors and all that, so that it would be more realistic.

that is a question, what damage would the chopper take if bullets hit the rotors?

the rotor shaft of the Apache can take a hit from a 30mm round iirc afaik Bbq
Collision meshes on helos = win
For once I'd like to actually have to secure a decent drop zone for my helo pilot instead of him just magically coming in and settling down next to a light pole or summit, though that'd be more useful if the smoke would render for the bloody choppers off screen

fast ropes in PR are pointless, i can land faster. The way chopers are fragile at the moment it wouldnt work.

I think we need this expecially on muttrah where is see the helis flying around the streets more often the cars.
It really is a problem.

Are we allowed to ad collision meshes to EA/Dice models?

no
but at the rate we are going we don't have to worry we'll have nothing but our own models ingame

Heh, true, its not very realistic but I looove doing it. If we decide to eliminate the low flying helicopters, we better change the number of spawnable AA to 1.ReapersWarrior wrote:I think we need this expecially on muttrah where is see the helis flying around the streets more often the cars.

what wouldnt work? choppers arent that fragile. I was going like 400 in Huey at like 5 altitude in Muttrah, then came the turn of the street, I took a sharp turn, bumped into the sidewall and didn't explode. my squadmate made an incoherent scream lol.ralfidude wrote:fast ropes in PR are pointless, i can land faster.
