Canine Patrol kit
Ok here's the idea.
Maybe a bit far fetched (no pun inteneded), maybe not.
A kit that includes a Canine, maybe a German Shephard.
Soldier would carry who knows what, maybe somethin for close up fights.
The Dog would bark when within 25m or so of an enemy, or group of enemies, alerting the team of an enemy presence.
The assigned key would send the dog to attack the enemy, once visible.
Maybe only allow 1 kit per team.
It's been on my mind all day.
I havent a clue whether or not a canine can actually be included in PR but that's why I'm here.
The kit is real in the real world. A few soldiers do have canines. It wouldnt even need a seat in a vehicle, it could sit lap. lol.

This would be funny, a remote arresting tool like the shotgun bean bags.

awww, my first dog was a German Shepherd called 'Poppy', I can never watch I am Legend again because of the Dog dying...don't think I'd play PR ever again eitherKarateDoug wrote: A kit that includes a Canine, maybe a German Shephard.
I don't think it would work ingame for several reasons,
1) don't think its codable,
2) although there are plenty of canine units IRL, I dunno if they would be part of a major battle like in PR

Fast sprint, long stamina, sharp teeth, big jumpiness, VOIP modified so that the only thing anyone else in the squad can hear is barking

Instead of shouting 'I need a medic', the dog could say 'sausages'
Instead of shouting 'I outta ammo', the dog could say 'sausages'
And, instead of shouting 'attack this position', the dog could say 'sausages'
But that last one is just ridiculous, who in there right frame of mind would be squad leader, and choose the Dog kit? :d uh:

I commend you for thinking "outside the box" anyway.
I think animal rights activists would take issue with simulated dog maulings and killings.
I wouldn't care personally, could add an interesting dynamic to the game.

not possible in bf2, could be possible in bf2142, since you have also guard drones there

Not as much as you'd think; dogs ARE used in war, both in rescue and combat roles.~XHW~Flamestorm wrote:silly and unrealistIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC

they exist IRL, so this wouldn't be wholly unrealistic on insurgency maps I guess.

But you're still going to have to model a dog and animate it... Besides, why would you want the dog to attack the enemy? They're not used like that. I read an article yesterday about military dogs, they're used for sniffing out bombs, among other things.

The Red Alert series has trainable dogs that sniff out spies and maul infantry. Those were the days, dog armies.'= wrote:H[=TangFiend;814237']I commend you for thinking "outside the box" anyway.

This may not be possible with the BF2 engine, but I've been thinking how it could be done:
The dog barking to alert of enemy presence could be like a mobile UAV. In vanilla, when the UAV touched a target with it's circling bar, there'd be a little beep.
If that beep could be replaced with a bark, every so often an enemy was near, the dog UAV would bark it out.
You can also adjust the range of a UAV in BF2. So the dog could have a 25m range.
---
Now using it to attack could be done with animations, but it would look funny at times.
Dog on leash is the weapon, player presses fire button, dog goes forward and attacks. However, the dog going forward would probably go into walls or other objects. You could give this weapon range, so it only attacks so far.
Also, if you had another weapon for this kit, the dog would instantly disappear when switching to the pistol/rifle/knife.

Re: Canine Patrol kit
i KNOW that the bundeswehr has some dog-units that have dogs trained to kill. I do not think of the dogs that catch someone that is in fleeing, but really trained to kill an armed soldier. But these units are pretty rare and small. But they exist, so it would not be this unrealistic.youm0nt wrote:But you're still going to have to model a dog and animate it... They still are mainly used to find explosives and stuff.

Re: Canine Patrol kit
this is halarious. If it ever were to come true (although it wont) we would need another animation like in call of duty 4 where you need to melee the dog when he goes for your throat. The dogs face should be G.W.Bush, that would be utterly scary.
