Suggestions to prevent pilot smacktards.
I'm really tired of people getting into the helicopters and wasting them. Furthermore on Muttrah you always get like 10 people that want to pilot. People take choppers even though they're in infantry squads. They decide to create new pilot squads even though the first one isnt full. There's just so much retardation revolving helicopters, something needs to be done to weed out the idiots.
I'm just throwing stuff out there because I'm very irritated.
1) Increase the point penalty cost for crashing a helicopter.
2) Don't allow people with negative scores to use a helicopter.
This usually means they joined, got in a helicopter and crashed it; this would prevent them from doing that again.
3) If a pilot loses a helicopter, disallow him the use of a helicopter for 6 minutes. This way A)Bad pilots get weeded out as someone else can get a chance to fly. Why 6 minutes? Transport choppers respawn in 5, that way someone else can take the chopper and not have to compete for it. If a server is relatively empty and no one else wants to fly but you need a pilot, it's only a minute longer wait than usual.
4)Reduce the number of transport helicopters on Muttrah
By 1 or 2. That way hopefully they are more cherished and you dont have as many pilots doing nothing. This will also put more emphasis on boat and APC use.
5)Reduce the number of pilot kits in kit circulation.
Self explanatory, prevents people from waiting on the carrier with pilot kits. If there are 5 choppers, make 5 pilot kits max in circulation. Once a pilot dies, his kit goes back in the pool and someone can request it. This should force more people to go infantry and again, weed out the people who die 7 times a round in a helicopter.
This is something I quickly brainstormed, more ideas are welcome. I really think something needs to be done to organize piloting.

This prevents failed pilots how? If they're crashing on the pads they either don't understand or they don't give a damn. This harms the team, not he pilotunrealalex wrote:I'm really tired of people getting into the helicopters and wasting them. Furthermore on Muttrah you always get like 10 people that want to pilot. No, this again punishes good pilots who have a run of bad luck or are destroyed on teh pad from long range fire.2) Don't allow people with negative scores to use a helicopter.

Again, you are punishing good pilots who are shot down. You will be shot down, this is a certainty, no matter how good you are.3) If a pilot loses a helicopter, disallow him the use of a helicopter for 6 minutes. The Helos on Muttrah are a central part of gameplay, they are part of what makes Muttrah, Muttrah, the map should not be changed in this regard.4)Reduce the number of transport helicopters on Muttrah

Again, no, there are those who take the pilot kit "for the lulz", this could lead to having no pilot kits even though there's good pilots in need of them.5)Reduce the number of pilot kits in kit circulation.

Re: Suggestions to prevent pilot smacktards.
1) It prevents failed pilots by giving them a negative score, and a negative sore is then not allowed to fly in 2)
If it's a good pilot he will have been in the air for a good time anyway. And if he's really good, a squad mate can easily reserve a chopper for him. After all, its the no-mic and the one man squad people who waste the choppers.
Most of the time admins don't want chopper hogging anyway.
And there's more than enough choppers on Muttrah. 2 huey's and 2 little birds is more than enough to take the whole team without even APC's and boats. You're saying they won't exist on the map anymore. You know how often there's multiple choppers just sitting idly on the carrier doing nothing, or worse, people sitting in them and doing nothing, and then just flying around the map with no passengers due to boredom?
I don't mean to brag but I'm a great transport pilot, and I'm also often infantry. I'm not biased in my arguments is what I'm trying to say.
We seem to have a different opinion of a "good" pilot anyway. I've flew the whole map and got 1 or no deaths many times. A good pilot will crash only a few times a round, due to bad luck as you said, and in that case none of the suggestions I listed will prevent him from flying and only help him fly in the long run.

Re: Suggestions to prevent pilot smacktards.
So what happens when you get a server lag hit. And you lose a pilot.
or the helo gets dragged back.
Or the so called good pilots land crash into you on the carrier.
Some smackard TK's you for the chopper.
Get AA while sitting on the carrier.
Knob flips their coppter takeing out 2 others.
Explode just as landing
Someone lowers the rear ramp without you knowing it. ( yeah know that's merlin}
Your end up with people needing pilots but having to wait even longer. And it's slow enough with all the other kits. I agree that its annoying that you get people flipping copters on the deck. Being more restrictive means more chance your not get the good pilots.
Maybe if the copters are destroyed within 1min of starting up they get respawned that could help, don't think it's possible.

None of your ideas will prevent smacktards with pilot kits.
Most admins don't want smacktarded pilots. Playing on a server with admins is just about the only way to "weed out the idiots" and prevent them from returning to spoil your experience.unrealalex wrote:Most of the time admins don't want chopper hogging anyway.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes.

Re: Suggestions to prevent pilot smacktards.
I do think that the LBs should be removed on Muttrah for 2 reasons
fewer choppers means less pilots on the map at any given time
Marines do not use LBs
couple this with the negative score suggestion and you have a more realistic and smacktard unfriendly map
If a pilot is good he will get some scores up at the start of the game, if he's not good he will not be using choppers again, if he is good and has an accident...that is the fortunes of war, if he is good and gets shot down....he's being punished for losing a chopper....instead of just the team being punished for losing a chopper.
the score thing has more good than bad points imo

Please NO ignore this, next will have suggestion we use inflatables and row in. It's a massive map and not having the LB will so detract from it. Love seeing the LB over head. As Mec something nice to shoot at and as USMC last bit of fun.Dr2B Rudd wrote:I do think that the LBs should be removed on Muttrah for 2 reasons

The devs are aware of the not-all-that-realistic factor, but Rhino decided to keep it in anyway, partly for balance (better at high-risk insertions), coolness, and the fact that people associate Muttrah with LBs.

Re: Suggestions to prevent pilot smacktards.
I like the LBs on Muttrah. They should definitely stay.....
Smarktard pilots have been a lot less of a problem than in the old Muttrah, I think it is a good balance now. In fact when the marines get a foothold in the city, there is little for the pilots to do.....
What I WOULD like to see is the transport LB co-pilot being able to lase targets....this would give them a useful second role as scout helos for the Cobra.

Re: Suggestions to prevent pilot smacktards.
Then just reduce the number of little birds. One or two would be plenty. Why do they need 5 choppers? Or is it 6?
=/ project reality mod. its funny how it started out with weeding out of the unrealistic stuff, and then unrealistic stuff started being added in.

I like the negative score yeilding loss of wings for that player. We need more people on the ground anyway. Wait till next round to see how your luck is. Don't like it then fly better/make better decisions, at least you didn't die IRL.

Muttrah is Little Birds. They are synonymous with one anther. Without a lot of Little Birds, you don't have Muttrah.unrealalex wrote:Then just reduce the number of little birds. One or two would be plenty. Why do they need 5 choppers? Or is it 6?

Re: Suggestions to prevent pilot smacktards.
Number of times dying in a round? Please. Your skill as a pilot has no effect on your enemies skill. Or even your own teams skill. You could be the best pilot in the world of PR. But, if your stuck with the worst team, and facing the best opponents, your over-confidence will result in your failure. Your a supporting role. Like the canary in the mine, if your team is in trouble, your usually the first to go. And also if it's smooth sailing, you'll fly around without a care in the world. Point is, if we start putting game mechanics in to "judge" who is a decent pilot or not, then we're going to run into problems where good pilots get the shaft while some idiot who just joined the server flys away solo in the cobra. Then we all do a face palm when he crashes it feet from the carrier.unrealalex wrote:We seem to have a different opinion of a "good" pilot anyway. And how is Muttrah synonymous with little birds lol? Without them you'd still have the same map. And I don't mind keeping the little birds, just less of them. We don't need 6 helicopters. Why doesnt Qwai river have 6 helicopters?
Right now on Muttrah helicopters are not valued at all. One crashes, no biggie!

Re: Suggestions to prevent pilot smacktards.
The solution is, good admins, admin messages triggered when you get into a copter or pick a pilot kit, advising training and practice before flying one "in an operation" and admin messages in the "rules" part of the loading screen.unrealalex wrote:I guess you failed to read the part where marines dont have little birds.

I don't think the Huey is perfect yet, and as such LBs are needed, i would perhaps reduce it by one perhaps but thats it.
Quai doesn't have an ocean to cross like Muttrah
Helicopters are valued a LOT, it is a biggie when they crash.
- Enemy team gets the kills for the copter (you lose lots of tickets) with a full copter
- Mobility is diminished every time one crashes - hence MEC can establish their defences again
