Large Smoke screen.
When i was looking at some footage of the Israeli Cast Lead Operation i got inspired to post this topic.
Is it possible and / or desirable to have a Artillery / Aircraft deliverd Smoke screen like a Willie Pete (White Phosphores) arty round or bomb?
As it could be requested in the same way you would request a area attack, it would cover a certain area in smoke so units could retreat from or attack a certain position without the enemy seeing it.

Very cool idea, but I think it'll cause some serious lag issues for people that don't have a good enough pc.
Still, would love to see it that on the field.

There's smoke and other effects all over the place anyway, I can't imagine smoke is a stressful on PCs as alot of other effects anyway.

Yeah if it can be called in like 5 rounds in a row before reloading so the requesting player can set a line on the map that needs to be smoked that would be good for tactics i believe.

There's a small difference between popping some smoke grenades and having artillery-delivered smoke cover an entire city block

Don't worry about people with bad PCs. They need to upgrade and you need to give them a reason to do it. I always wanted a smokescreen be delivered via a smoke generator or munitions.

The JDAM puts up a load of dirt when it explodes and a WP round could have the same impact only smaller and not so high. so you can fire more.[R-MOD]dunehunter wrote:There's a small difference between popping some smoke grenades and having artillery-delivered smoke cover an entire city block![]()

£500 will get you a decent gaming pc
Although I do think that is a bit selfish, not everyone wants to spend that amount of money just to play. I think the idea though. My computer lags quite a bit when a jdam goes off but I'm planning on improving it sometime soon. It would also give the commander something else to do.

Re: Large Smoke screen.
Isn't it the other way round. The majority of players that play a MOD ( any mod ) tend to be enthusiast not just your out of the box player. Takes interest in gaming to install a MOD. So if the enthusiast is someone that has an above average machine, and as there hobby tends to have pretty good spec. So aiming for a P3 user who hasn't got the interest/money means your aiming at the minority.crAck_sh0t wrote:Selfish?

If you look at Muttrah v2 your find that most people have 50+ fps, Seconds have 30+. so to aim at the minority means they are holding it back for the gaming enthusiast. You can get a 9800GT for around £100 which I would imagine most people got presents for xmas or birthday, or cheaper on ebay.
Guess what I paid a Grand for my machine ( year ago ), and will with luck last 2years but already looking at updating my GPU technology moves on and the price drops

Smoke/wp rockets.

Although if you have a reasonable motherboard you'd probably be better off spending that on a decent graphics card processor and as much qualityish RAM as you can.AquaticPenguin wrote:£500 will get you a decent gaming pc

How could this be implemented anyway? Obviously you don't want 1 big cloud of smoke otherwise it's not really a screen, is there a way of having an asset immediately available a certain number of times before having to wait again, if so you could have 5 shots or so you can actually create a proper smoke screen.

Re: Large Smoke screen.
I'd rather have it as a commander asset - it seems more likely (smoke artillery barrages have been around a while), and it gives the commander an additional asset to use. It isn't very unbalancing as it wouldn't mean a JDAM on the enemy's head every 5 minutes, but it'd be useful when, for example, crossing wide open spaces.[R-CON]Alex6714 wrote:I would give this to aircraft.

I wouldn't make it WP, though. WP in real life is nasty when deployed on people, and you certainly wouldn't want to give the commander a giant molotov cocktail.

I remember someone wanting to put smoke rockets on the LB in Kashan so it could mark targets/smoke out the enemy.[R-CON]Alex6714 wrote:I would give this to aircraft.

It would certainly make them more useful since they are suppose to be recon choppers in such maps.
But i guess commander controlled is also a good idea.
