On the one hand mumble can let you know roughly where everyone is by the sound of their voice, on the other hand standard voip you can hear what they say no matter where they are, surely that's an advantage?

-Well, I think one reason is just because players currently using mumble are teamwork oriented, probably all community members, with a good deal of experience. In addition, the positional audio should give players using mumble a good advantage when it comes to identifying enemies as you can just say "at my location" and people will know based solely on the audio direction instead of having to identify your position, then the enemy. There may also be more efficient communication in the squad(again, due to positional audio) and there may be more players in-game using mumble they were cooperating with.
(lol, I'm on the official PR channel now, heard a Russian(I think) guy say "mumble schmumble". No idea why that cracked me up)
