it all depends on if the code can handle it or not... Be my guest at trying to code the handling yourself if you want since no one else is working on it at the moment.McLuv wrote:But, can't you do what I said? give it little to no upwards vertical power, just enough to stay up/climb slowly?
The way I see it, the reason choppers tip before warming up is because they are so much more prone to tipping before they've reached max power, since they have neough to maybe lift a skid off the ground for a bit, but not more. If we implemented this with the harrier, it would be pretty much impossible to VTOL, but still possible to STOVL. Rght?

I would have done it like 100times over to find out if its possible, if only i knew how. Anyway, Harrier sounds it will be an awesome asset...[R-DEV]Rhino wrote:it all depends on if the code can handle it or not... Maybe the devs could make it for al basrah?Wouldnt mind having a som air support from an jet on an insurgency map.

Its really not that hard tbh. All it really is, is a huge amount of text editing and trial and error which takes a lot of time.Cptkanito wrote:I would have done it like 100times over to find out if its possible, if only i knew how. Anyway, Harrier sounds it will be an awesome asset...

look for CAS's posts in that topic, will give you some info on stuff.
Basically every vehicle has there own .con and .tweak files, some times multiple ones but these .con and .tweak files, espically the .tweak files are what controls basically everything about the aircraft/vehicle, from how it flys, to its weapons etc. In them is engine,s weapons etc, with little sub bits like power, turn rates, etc, you just need to change the value for each of these until you get what you want
basrah is also a 1024x2 map, making it too small....Marc-5ive wrote:Maybe the devs could make it for al basrah?Wouldnt mind having a som air support from an jet on an insurgency map.

Dont the cold mean thicker air wich mean better performance ?[R-DEV]Rhino wrote:it also depends a lot about the climate, since if jet engines can only produce a fraction of there max power when in a cold environment.
Not much work done on the coding yet, but for game play sake we will probably allow the harrier to just take off via VTOL even with a full pay load since there is no way we can control its overall wait by if its dropped its bombs or not. So overall it will be easier to take off via the normal conventional way but will still just be possible to take off via VTOL but will be slow to get off the ground, as if we only allow the thing to drop when in VTOL it will be really hard to land it realistically.

I can't remember exactly which way around it is and the reasons behind it, I can just remember that jet engines dont preform as well in some climates, which is really bad in the case of STOVL jets as in some climates they can land vertically 100% fine, but in others they simply can't do itHotrod525 wrote:Dont the cold mean thicker air wich mean better performance ?

Re: Harrier?
The Harrier IIs the USMC has seemed to be working fine in Yuma Arizona when I was there and they were operating. I had heard that when landing they can basically inhale their own exhaust which can cause they to drop rapidly if they try to hover really low (like 15 feet off the deck or less).[R-DEV]Rhino wrote:I can't remember exactly which way around it is and the reasons behind it, I can just remember that jet engines dont preform as well in some climates, which is really bad in the case of STOVL jets as in some climates they can land vertically 100% fine, but in others they simply can't do it![]()
We need a 4km square map with a USMC 'carrier' a harrier and a lot of Chinese to bomb.

Re: Harrier?
Complete and utter tosh. The air is thin on the top of Everest because you are 29,000 feet above sea level and therefore atmospheric pressure is less, making the air less dense, making it less able to conduct heat effectively. Air is very poorly heated by the sun, and instead warmth is provided to the earth by sunlight falling onto the ground, which then radiates it back into the air, warming it. Very little ground at 29,000 feet, less air to conduct heat effectively, .: the air is colder.Scot wrote:Generally cold cold means 'thinner air' so when you climb up to Mount Everest, you need oxygen tanks, because your body needs more oxygen and get enough from the thinner air![]()
You need oxygen tanks because, as mentioned, there is less atmospheric pressure - not enough to force sufficient quantities of oxygen into the lungs in order for pulmonary respiration to effectively take place.
All other things being equal, cold air is more dense than hot air - this is why steam rises from a saucepan in a cold kitchen! If you *really* want to prove yourself wrong, take a plastic bottle, partially fill it with water from the hot tap, swirl it around and then screw the lid on tight. Then submerge it in a bowl of cold water.
The bottle will crumple and contract - the air inside the bottle, heated by the warm water, is cooled rapidly by the bottle's immersion in cold water. The air cools, energy is taken out of the system and the level of entropy in the bottle drops. The air becomes cooler, more dense, and therefore (because it is a gas) reduces in volume. This reduction is sufficient to cause the plastic bottle to gave in on itself...
Scot, I'm sadly disappointed in your science!

Probably, I am predicted mainly C's/B's
But I am sadly disappointed in your Lesson's, it's under Geography
But that does make sense
But mine made sense to me, who knows, proved the whole of the scientific world wrong in one sentence? Minds have been blown?

Re: Harrier?
I understand where you came from but just because High Altitude = Cold and High Altitude = Thin Atmosphere that doesn't mean that Cold = Less Dense Air!
*grin*
Anyways, VOTL aircraft work better in cold enviroments and lose thrust in hot ones - precisely because of this very problem. The Sea Harrier, for example, could only fly a CAP, return to a carrier and land veritically whilst retaining weapons payloads in cold waters; in tropical regions they had to land conventionally.
Royal Navy to be first running-jump-jet force â$¢ The Register briefly mentions this problem.
