Anyways, the Harrier is very unique. btw if this map that is WIP is sea based, will there be a new carrier? or just a modded Essex?

I'll give you a clue, Harriers are used by the RAF in Afghanistan.

YEa, but I thought I remembered something in the community mods section about Kandahar Airport statics, and Spaceman posted a doc in Offtopic about Harrier fighter pilots in Afghanistan, stationed at Kandahar (though it's no longer available through Utube any more :P ), though I'm pretty sure I might have got that last one wrong, seeing as the Dutch mod wants Kandahar :p

AND GOD SAID BRING LIFE TO THIS THREAD MY SON!!!

The hot air vs cold air thing- Cold = dense. and dense means what? Filled with something. The dense colder air creates more lift for the vertical thrust fan because it passes a larger volume of air over the fins in less time versus hot air. Hotter air isn't always "thinner" though. As with humidity, that makes the air heavier. Hot air and cold air by the same volume do not have the same density. And as most know mollecules move faster when heated. The point is the aircraft has better lift in dense air (colder). Hot air is easier to move through and doesn't provide much lift. Something strange about it is hot air is usually moving up and you would think would help with lift. A side note about wing design... the air traveling over the top of the wing is moving faster, creating the lift... it is also cooling down more as it passes over top in relation to the bottom.

The coolant, another person mentioned, is basically misted into the hover device to make the air more dense and easier for the fan to "grab" onto it. The bombing payload is the other side of the coin as the development of the aircraft was mainly pointed to just being able to VTOL(early development of the Harrier). Taking many years to accomplish a working service model and adding armorment. This link talks a bit about STOVL and it's development and has a link to VTOL. Whatever you want to call it, it is having the ability to hover before taking off or landing.... lets leave it at that :D STOVL - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I like McLuv's idea of making it more like a heli on take off. That would make it a little more realistic durring take off. and now I won't go around saying i pray that something will be added to carriers in the future :P

about over heat thats one of the reasons the F 35 is better than the X 32 cus X 32 flys like harrier but the 35 has a lift fan the counters the hot thrust of the engine by blowing cool air using the lift fan as well as providing lift so jet exhaust doesnt get sucked back into the engine
