I totally agree. Gaming companies are putting out games that will last tops 2 years. They want people to buy expansions, and the "next" game. COD4 was put out to compete with UT3 and other "visually appealing" games. Not to mention the competition from the console games. I do not think that the PR community needs to "overthink" the survival of this mod. It will last for a while, and imo gain popularity as these next gen games come out. WHY??..well, these games require very stout machines and expensive new hardware, Shader 3 graphic cards, 2 gig ram, dual core, 550 min watt power supply, pci express boards to handle the newer stuff, etc etc. Some people will not be able to keep up with these games both financially, and "invested time". So, they will gravitate to the games like bf2 for good gaming experience. HEck the ravenshield 3 community still exists and some clans even ladder still. That game uses the UT2 engine and is older and more antiquated than the PR python code. No, I think that the devs should continue down the path of perfection with what is given to them, and PR will survive..at least for a while.BeerHunter wrote:The vast majority of the new games coming out (Crysis , COD4 etc.) are giving you nothing more than prettier graphics or scenery realism. The actually game play dates back to early DoD/CS (run and gun with virtually no team work or tactics). That aspect hasn't changed..
BTW: COD4 was so disappointing. It was pretty, but way too hyper, fast and confusing. Too much going on, and too much eye candy..to the point of ridiculousness...You can still jump out of 2 story buildings and not get hurt..LOL., and as you shoot the machine gunners, they are quickly replaced by "magical" replacements that seemingly come out of nowhere. PLEASE...feed me some more garbage...
Cheers
