Helicopter Engine Sounds are Too Loud for Communication
The default settings for sounds in PR 1.0 are amazing. I find most of it a improvement except the M4/M16 rifle sounds, the older one sounded dead on; However this thread is about the engine sounds.
In certain situations when trying to communicate to other squads when flying a transport, or trying to talk to the pilot of the transport. It is near impossible with the engine being so loud and especially while in flight.
I don't think pilots are rendered deaf when sitting in the pilot seat. They would be able to effectively communicate with others using their radio. If it is possible, perhaps local transmit should be quieter than using the radio comms, all radio comms should be louder allowing effective communications for pilots and squad leaders.
As of right now, the only way to fix this problem is to turn the ingame sound effects volume down, while leaving the mumble volumes alone, and turning your system volume higher overall.
I have no problem with this because I use the above method, but for new players. I can understand how much of a problem this would be when they attempt to squad lead and deal with fustrating pilots who cannot hear anything.
I've experienced many occasions myself with pilots who seemed brain dead, getting frustrated and angry when they fly in dangerous zones and drop incorrectly. The problem is even more intensified combined with squad members who dismount incorrectly separating the squad. Now, I am realized the problem is not they are retarded, but it's because they cannot hear others when inside the helicopter.

What about if it was made quieter just for the pilots and gunners to recreate the wearing of headphones?

Can't be done afaik.PLODDITHANLEY wrote:What about if it was made quieter just for the pilots and gunners to recreate the wearing of headphones?
Why don't you simply install software to control your PR volume with simple hotkey or mouse slider? Or use thissolution. It's a lot more useful than just for this exact problem.

Ummm, it can be done and is currently being done, but we possibly need to bump it up a little more.Prevtzer wrote:Can't be done afaik.

That still won't help the issue that squads in a helicopter can't communicate effectively with the pilot, unless the SL takes the gunner position (if there is one). You'd need to make it quiet for everyone.PLODDITHANLEY wrote:What about if it was made quieter just for the pilots and gunners to recreate the wearing of headphones?

It wont work Rhino. The vehicle rotation volumes works as a 3p weapon fire sound. The listenerobstruction only "muffles" the sounds outside the listener. But the volumes are the same, but the ears believe its decreased.'[R-DEV wrote:Rhino;1934374']Ummm, it can be done and is currently being done, but we possibly need to bump it up a little more.Code: Select all

But yeah, this is the only way to make your hear each other over mumble. Either that or simply decrease the volumes, but then people will (and I promise that) complain that the vehicles sounds are too low. As they've already done several times.
If you can have 2 sounds "inside" and "outside" for vehicle rotation engines, it will be like Arma but that will mean heaaaavy load on sound sizes and it wont work in Refractor 2 anyways...

What about if Mumble temporarily lower the effects volume a little bit, while Voices are transmitted?

Could be disturbing sometimes if game volume decreases everytime somebody speaks. I deactivated it for our clanmumble cause it was annoying. Is it possible just to decrease the sounds when people inside the vehicle?

Re: Helicopter Engine Sounds are Too Loud for Communication
While we're on the topic, how is everyone's sounds set up? Because I can't seem to work out how to increase just mumble and leave the effects down low. Is that possible?
Could be good and bad, VOIP does this. Good in that you'll hear your team mates, bad in that when everyone is talking you won't hear what's happening around you apart from their voices.TeRR0R wrote:What about if Mumble temporarily lower the effects volume a little bit, while Voices are transmitted?

The mumble change could be made optional.
So everyone can decide, what to use.
