Explosion Graphics

Post by Army Musician »

I dont know whether any of you have played xww2 for BF1942 (http://www.xww2.com). The explosion graphics which they have implemented are amazing.
Here are some screens though you have to play it to get the full effect.

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w259 ... Wake06.jpg
http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w259 ... Caen02.jpg
http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w259 ... Wake02.jpg

So I am wondering would it be possible to implement something like this into PR.

I am sure if you went to the Xww2 and asked them Very nicely................

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaassseeeeeee! I will give you a cookie.

PS. I wish FH had those and especially on a Battle of Britain, it would have been awesome and really realistic.

PPS. I know this may seem off-topic, but it isnt, it is a suggestion, for PR.

PPPS. NO, I havent used photoshop!!!!

I know that everyone is going to reply, "this isn't a priority for the DEVs, they are busy with other things", but I think that realistic explosions are a major problem in BF2 and fixing them would draw more people to the mod.

I think that explosions now should have a shorter flame exposure because now the VOD appears to be that of ANFO.

Are huge hollywood fireball effects realistic?

(It's a serious question)

Well that depends on several factors such as: What kind of explosive is being detonated (low order, high order/low VOD,thermobaric etc.), is other combustible materials present such as fuel, flammable aerosol particles, propellants/pyrotechnics flammable gas etc.
Also dependant on which movies you are referring to.

A simple aswer would be no, not in most cases.

EDIT:

That's the explosion from the missile dispersing and igniting the fuel, not really the explosion itself.

Why does everyone always have to try to kill every good idea? I'd rather have astounding, somewhat over the top explosions than the insta-charcoal shit we have right now.

Ok point is it can happen so they should put it in the game.

Its an interesting video, if not sad.

I found it quite funny that they said that it was an american helicotper in Iraq, that is unless americans just recently started operating Hinds.

What I don't like about the explosions in BF2 for the most part is the lack of smoke after the explosion. After you detonate C4 there should be some smoke rising from where it went off.

Not smoke. Dust. All explosions need alot more dust.

Agreed, too much fire, not enough smoke/dust.

It looked like the pilots could have survived, it wasn't as if it just fell from the sky, looked to have an OK rate of decent.

Except for that whole massive fireball/getting cooked to well done part. Kind of hard to see because of bad photography, but there was definatly a lot of fire down there.
