17 km Maps ? Sweet jesus.

Post by =UKHC=Neoteknix »

woah.

so the first ever 17 km maps will appear in version 0.7 ? Nice pic by the way Rhino, Very impressive !

What do you guys think the gameplay will be like on these maps being the size they are ? will they suffer if the BF Engine can still only handle 64 players ? i personally think 17km maps are gonna need like 100 + Players to make it work ...... but i could be wrong ?

what do you peeps think ?

Err....the largest map, we have is 4x4 Km and 8x8 Km is possible in theory...

Its not 17 Km size, its 17 Km surface (square Km)

like outlawz said, its a 17km^2 area, not 17km x 17kms. its 4km x 4km which = a 17km^2 area.

So you're gonna see these sized maps a lot sooner than you apparently think sir!

It says on the main page ..........

"
L3DT
With the release of v0.6 Project Reality will introduce a 17 square kilometre map. We'll be continuing to stretch the limits of the BF2 engine. One of the tools we'll be using is "L3DT" or "Large 3D Terrain Generator" from Bundysoft (http://www.bundysoft.com)"

Its not precisely 4 Km, so it adds up to 16.#####, which is to close to 17

yes but its not excatly 1000m, which is 1km, its 1024m, so 1024m x 4 = 4096m, 4096m x 4096m = 16,777,216

round that up and you have 17,000,000 meters squared area, and then convert it to kms = 17kms :)

PS. I know I should not use units in sums but its easier to explain it that way :p

WWIIOnline is 28,000 square kilometers.

If you want a great realistic wargame, give it a try. Real penetration models, engage enemies from 2000m out, play with 1000's of real opponents, etc.

Graphics aren't as good as BF2, but it's a sim, so no bunnyhopping soldiers parachuting off of water towers...

Anyway, I split my time between PR and WWIIOL, both are great games!!!

like every other release, alot of maps in the release before our kept, but some that aint upto scratch or dont fit the mod anymore are dropped, and replaced with new maps :)

no, it uses the same amount of memory, terrain wise as a 1024x2 map (normal BF2 size). but the extra objects in the map, and the view distance may have an effect, but I've made this map so it should be playable on most systems :)

WWIIOL is a MMOFPS, it has afew problems with it like it has a max amount of players it can draw in the view distance (cant remember the number exactly), but that means if you have loads of ppl in one area, which you can get for huge battles, lots of players will not get drawn and you can get shot by invisible players...

Also PR is a modern day combat game :p

both games(/mods) have there strong and weak points :)

iirc it's technically 4.1 x 4.1 = 16.81, so we call it 17 square.
