If you don't have the tools, I'm gonna go ahead and assume you've never modeled before.
Modeling is very hard, you can't just pick it up and make a carrier.
I would advise you to start off small, like a SMG perhaps, then work your way up to a carrier.
You can use gmax to get started, its free. You can also use 3dMax, but that costs a fortune.

I just started modelling as well, and actually it is pretty nice and a fun thing to do..
I'm now building a Mini Cooper which I want to import into battlefield 2
But maybe, when I have finished some car models, I can try to make something of this ship.. ^^ I would need some pretty good pictures for it though, and a lot of reference material.. But I first gotta finish this mini, and some other cars and then I can move on to bigger things, like this

Here's a tutorial you might want to do. It has all the basics for 3DS Max modelling. Gmax is basically the same program, so it should cover that, too. It's for gun modelling, but the techniques are very much the same.

And as others have said, start off with something fairly simple, like the gun in the tutorial.
Good luck! Please give us updates as you progress.

More guns and bullets make bad guys go away faster,
which in turn makes everyone in the area safer.

There's a plugin for 3DS Max and/or Gmax available for download that imports to the BF2 Editor. Not sure about Wings. I don't have a link right now; try Google.
Also, when you start modelling, remember that it's really, really time consuming, and it takes a lot of time and experimenting to get it right.
