Explosions and dust
i find a video of the forgotten hope 2 beta (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlSNlaMLU1U) and i see that there is a lot of dust when the artillery fire's on sand so i think that the explosion of a tank shell or a missile should get a more sand in the air if its a map like kashan.. what do you guys think of this

the argument on this is that it causes lag.
to date, I have seen no testing on this, nor have I heard of any.
why not?

Those are some really nice explosion effects
Ya particle effects are a bit tricky. I did some tests long time ago.
Basically BF2 can handle surprisingly high particle counts as long as they don't cover your whole screen. If your screen gets covered you start to lag (atleast my 7600gt did).
I made a test where I had half of the map covered with thick black smoke (loads of particles). It didn't lag at all if you watched it a bit further away. Moving closer made my fps go down to 1-2 or so.
Heh ya we need some new expolosion effects. Good thing with explosions is that you're not going to watch them closeby...you're dead if you do
It would be nice to have a dev or con dedicated to particle effects (*hint hint*
