These are already on the BlackHawks in the game, I don't think that these are usually carried around with soldiers though if that is what you mean.

Mounted miniguns on the ground would seem pretty awkward to me. I mean it would be pretty heavy, and make you a big target if you're being sneaked up on.

Anyway heres a longer video:

My guess would be ammunition economy.

They do, I've seen a video of some SF in Iraq. One of the weapons at their disposal was a vehicle mounted M-134.

If I were in Iraq, I'd get six peices of iron pipe, spot-weld them to the inside of a soup can cylinder, and slide my "minigun" over the .50 caliber. No more ambushes when they see a vulcan cannon sticking out of a jeep. And you'd imagine that wouldnt' work, but a B-29 crew stuck empty artillery casings over their rear tail guns like a big 40mm Bofors and were never attacked from behind again.

Effective ROF is directly related to the difference in speed between the target and the shooter. IE a helo traveling 100mph firing a 3000rpm weapon might have an impact every foot or two. The same weapon on a HMMV would be a bit overkill. Conversely a 600 rpm gun on helo would have bullets impact spread out so that it might have a hard time effectively engauging infantry.
Ive heard of some guns that have a sick ROF but were never really used because it just ended up being too much.

Or at least thats how I understand it.

Back in the 30's, the Germans figured that between the sound or flash of a machine gun firing and the few seconds before troops take to ground was the enemy's most vulnerable moment. The more bullets you can throw out in two or three seconds, the better. The result was the MG34 and 42, landmark and lethal weapons. Very high-speed burst firing is effective, however, a 6-barrel gatling requires a sturdy mount for firing, electric power and a huge amount of carefully linked and clean ammunition. A gun mounted open-air on top of a convoy humvee would probably be unreliable from all the dust and vibration getting into the belts and gears.

But damn, you could pour it on...

Oh, and the minigun reliability sucks by the way. You get one round not linked perfectly, and you gotta almost disassemble the whole f***ing gun. Not good on the aircraft, but even more deadly on the ground I'd imagine.

You guys never saw Predator before? Looke at Ventura... :p But I'd probably rather not have it in this game.. as if it were too powerful.. everyone would use it and it would be an arcade game again.

America was a tad late into the First World War. They redeemed themself's and came in slightly sooner in the Second. Now they seem determined to start the Third.

The minigun in that movie was "Made In Hollywood"!

IRL, it would require too much battery-power og and ammunition, for one man to carry.

Saw it on a "special-effects"-program once...

an ammo drum probably weights more then twice the usual kit a soldier carrys (excluding armour) do you really want to be humping one of those around you would be the slowest target on the map and vunerable to dieing and ambush.

Oh yeah! the full weapon system on the Huey weighed over 100 lbs easily. If I was still in the corps I could quote you all the specs from memory, but I've been out for over a year..... It took 2 guys to do a "quick" swap with the ammo can cause it was so dang heavy.

Hollywood indeed... It would be a good defense weapon wouldn't it.. for "diggin' in" Just think if there was a squad of em... try to take that flag! And in the end it wouldn't be balanced and all would be lost.

Yeah, I dunno about you, but I wouldn't want to hump 4,400 rounds of .308
