This has been on my mind for a while and i was wondering if it was possible to have a map in your kit which you open instead of pressing M. Not sure if this is hardcoded or not.

IIRC, it's possible to have more than 9 slots, but they can't be accessed with the scroll wheel. Maybe a topographic map could be assigned to one of those 'invisible' slots.
In that case, what would replace the M map?

Re: Kit Openable Maps
i think adding a new map for every map the way you asked for it, requires a whole new kit?

Maybe... only give the officer kit a map (They don't need 2 coloured smokes, do they). Make them topographical and not show any friendly or enemy positions. Then completely get rid of the "m" map (If need be, just make it invisible).
This would force infantry to learn to identify the enemy properly by their uniforms, and use landmarks to get their bearings. Vehicles would still get their mini-map, so it wouldn't be too radical of a change.
I would really like to see this implemented. It would decrease unrealistic HUD, and add new productive immersions to the game.

Someone brought this up a few months back. Having no map at all, or just having a map like you would in real life, with only the landscape, will really sort out alot of players. I'm for it though.

Agreed.
Every soldier should have a topographic map, but the squad leader should have some extra details and anyone in a vehicle should have access to a satellite map.
Yes, it's practical to have special kits for every map, but it would be a pain in the *** for the developers. Is the idea worth this level of coding trouble?

Re: Kit Openable Maps
I was thinking the other day of having a non autoupdate map, with symbols on permanently and friendly markers not moving, but if it is held open for 30secs it is updated to that secs info, this could work well together. But this comes from the guy who dreams of removed map markers (yes I'm gonna keep sayin it
)
