The next time somebody calls the Spec Ops class the Special Forces class I'm going to use one of that suicide emoticon.

On a lighter note, if you want a rangefinder you should take a Spec Ops guy with you. :D

If you can go on a server, and actually find a random spec ops willing to go and help out a sniper on a hill miles from his destination ill agree with you. I have to agree with Pefrectshot on this one. But i would since im a sniper myself so im probaly biased :P

id like to see a range finder on the binocs that the sniper's carry to be honest.
Its such a useful tool im kinda surprised it was only given to the specops class

Why would the sniper need a range finder? There is a little bit of bullet drop, but its random. If the sniper gets range finder binocs, the crosshairs should also be ajusted to you have to aim according to the distance.

snipers will probably get a range finder when in "zoomed in" scope view. Not as part of the scope, but as part of the HUD to compensate for the medium.... most snipers could estimate range very accurately in real life, but it's quite difficult to do with game engines.

near future release.

Cool! Snipers do need a range finder at times. Different maps can be quite decieving.

exactly...
secondly a range finder is good for other purposes... A sniper can spot out targets and tell the squad how far they are so they can prepare themselves for a planned attack in a timely fashion....
And yes as eggman said its very hard to actually estimate ranges accurately in a game with a flat screen.

Yeah thats right. Sometimes on a map, the ratios are different on radr. for example, On El alamein, if someone spots an APC which looks like its right next to you on the radar, it would actually be quite a bit further away but this can sometimes be the opposite in maps like 16 player Gulf Of Oman.

the sniper is really a lonewolf most of the time so they need to be able to see far alone.

Yes but nobody wants the sniper to be a lone wolf, hence not giving them something they need and giving it to someone else. Personally, I hate it when I'm a sniper and I see a tank, but I don't complain to the devs that the sniper kit needs an AT missile, because the AT missile is in the game, you just need someone else to use it for you.

callum i think you forced malik to use a suicide emoticon.. :(

The binocs from the Sec-Ops are for range finding at the moment.. I think the dev's wanted tu use them to target laser-target for planes (bombs or tv-guided missiles or stuff ^^ )

I'll let you off this time. ;)

Yeah, apparently they're going to be used to call in air strikes later, for now enjoy them for what they currently do: you can see long distances. It's great being able to be Spec Ops and have more than one use. You can do some light recon, spotting ranged targets for your team and getting a clear view on any long range threats such as snipers. Do you really need any more?

Special Forces.
pwned.

On-Topic: Yes, I think Snipers need a rangefinder. It might not be needed, but its more the principle.

I was hoping that thye would jsut designate targets, and when a player in a heli or plane flies over, and they fire, the missile is automatically guided to the target. And in tanks, targets are made really obvious.
But these require a continueous lock, guy keeps trackign the target with the benocs.
