Why developers prefer to start kp from bottom left corner? Don't you think, this is unnatural, because larger map sectors starts from top left corner? People always confusing with this

Map coordinates
Which way are you, people, prefer to determine maps coordinates? Are you counting so-called key-pads from top-left to bottom-right or vice versa?

Look at your keypad on the keyboard and it will be obvious.

Re: Map coordinates
This question has been asked before. More commonly, the 'numpad' on a keyboard starts in the bottom left corner. Using that is the easiest reference that most people have right infront of them.

Re: Map coordinates
Yeah, look in A1, it' has all the keypads listed.(small and blurry, but they're there) I really hate this confusion as there is no reason for it, we all should have a keyboard with the exact keypad layout in front of us.
Question, is the same keypad system used in vbf2? I can't remember.

I don't think so, I don't think there's even grid squares, never mind keypad squares.badmojo420 wrote:Question, is the same keypad system used in vbf2? I can't remember.

Re: Map coordinates
Just a side note, is this keypad system based on the numbered keypad on your keyboard the opposite from the way they would be number in actual map reading?
I'm sure I've a had a few guys talking about opposite corners of the grid because of this.

Not sure what RW way things are done but look at the grid squares on the screen look at the KEYPAD on your keyboard simples job done. Thats how it works for me. Although in voip ive come across it may times "I though it was the same as a phone" ppl are just so used to the number pad on there mobiles.

i think A1kp2 / A1np2 is more common practice though you do get alot of variationssmart_boy00 wrote:what is the more acceptable reply to a pilot?

as for the discussion of the logic of the keypad, i never really though of a phone keypad, mostly coz when i go to give a kp i briefly look at my keyboard to get the numbers.

Re: Map coordinates
I usually use A1-2
Or when speaking it to them I leave a short gap before the keypad number

Re: Map coordinates
Ok, sounds easy enough. most the time Im looking at the map when I just get in the chopper and get yelled at for taking a long time
Its something I need towork on. finding a spot on the map before getting inthe chopper.

Re: Map coordinates
Thanks for Your opinions.
I know all about numpad keys and A1 tip and so on. But i wanted to know why developers (or community) choosed this way of specifying second coordinate. In my opinion, it's more natural to specify second coordinate in same way as first. Other words, if we specify large map squares from top left, why we need to revert this system on smaller squares? I doubt that on real military maps people use this way (with keyboard numpad)
because it's unnatural.
And i saw many peoples which misunderstood each other, because they use different coordinate systems.

Re: Map coordinates
What about a GPS Number Quadrant on the map when you put your mouse over it? So you can call out numbers and the chopper will go to them? Maybe a GPS handheld?kumade wrote:Thanks for Your opinions.

Re: Map coordinates
the current map cords if feel keep the game relatively simple and allow the majority to express their intention to each other.
do we really want full topographical maps, phase lines and all the other associated stuff?
