Just had to bump this thread, it could dramatically improve game play by removing the instant death in vehicles glitch (I know it technically isnt but for the sake of gameplay it pretty much is) which ruins the ability to use vehicles as transports in combat zones and play in convoys. just curious is this suggestion even remotely possible with the BF2 engine?

It has been discussed by the devs, its implementation relies on a few other factors though. The idea has been noted.

It may be possible via python but the code to get it working would be pretty tricky and the steps to repair it would be a bit odd etc.
how about imitate the ammo box? after a certain level of use it vanishes? as a repair box? could be given to the engineer and are recharged only in suplays of the main base.

As Tim said it has been noted already. Atm the team focuses on fixing bugs in the first place.
After the major fixes are done and if we find some time again, we might take a look on that next to other new features.

But yeah, after reading your post I couldn't resist to make a quick example :)

Thats exactly how i pictured it! (with the exception of the wheel sticking out). My only opinion would be for the passengers/crew to be injured from there vehicle being disabled. Cool nonetheless.

all the cars should be able to take more damage from bullets (.50 and smallarms) before they explode... but i agree with you that engine should go off if its 50-70% damaged (i would say civil cars 50% and military 70%)

YES PLEASE :) I really like this suggestion even more I read about it and its feed back. I feel this will promote combat engineers to actually do more than simply remove mines and place C4 all over the place. We can actually start repairing vehicles mid game and save tickets instead of letting them rot or always destroying them.
